Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: May 29, 2026 · Effective date: May 27, 2026
JC Tire Shop (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a family-owned tire shop in Harvey, Louisiana. We believe everyone — including customers with visual, motor, hearing, or cognitive disabilities — should be able to shop for tires online without barriers. This statement explains what we are doing to make https://jctireshop.net accessible, where we still fall short, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
1. Our Commitment
We are committed to ensuring that jctireshop.net is accessible to people with disabilities. We take this seriously: it is the right thing to do, it widens our customer base, and it makes the site better for everyone. We treat accessibility as ongoing work, not a one-time checkbox.
2. Conformance Standard
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 AA is the standard most US courts, the Department of Justice, and screen-reader users expect from a commercial website.
We have not yet pursued a formal third-party audit or certification, but we test our site against this standard ourselves and use automated tools (Lighthouse, axe-core) plus manual keyboard and screen-reader testing.
3. Measures We Have Taken
Concrete steps we have taken to improve accessibility on this site:
- Keyboard navigation: Every interactive element — menus, the size picker, the product gallery, the cart, the checkout — is reachable and operable with the keyboard alone. No mouse required.
- Skip to content link: A “Skip to main content” link appears as the first focusable element on every page, so keyboard users do not have to tab through the entire navigation on each new page.
- Screen-reader friendly: Product images include descriptive alt text (brand, size, condition, tread depth where known). Decorative icons are hidden from screen readers. The site uses semantic HTML landmarks (
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<footer>). - Accessible dialogs: The product image lightbox and the “How to check tire size” help modal are implemented as proper ARIA dialogs — they trap focus while open, close on the ESC key, and return focus to the element that opened them.
- Form labels and error messages: Form fields on login, registration, contact, and checkout pages have visible labels. Error messages identify which field is wrong.
- Color contrast: Body text and important UI elements meet the WCAG AA 4.5:1 contrast ratio. We darkened our brand red for small text where the lighter shade was insufficient.
- Status announcements: The size picker and product filters communicate state changes (selected, active) to assistive technology via
aria-pressedand group labels. - Mobile-friendly: The site is responsive down to 320px wide, supports pinch-zoom, and respects the user’s system text-size preferences.
- Reduced motion: We avoid auto-playing animations and respect the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query for users who need calmer interfaces. - Captions and transcripts: We currently do not publish video content on the site. When we do, captions and transcripts will be provided.
4. Known Limitations
We want to be honest about where the site is not yet fully accessible. Known issues we are working on:
- Older product photos. Some legacy product photos may not have full descriptive alt text. We are reviewing and updating these.
- Some third-party widgets. The Stripe payment checkout, Google Maps embed, and live chat widget are hosted by third parties (see Section 5). We choose providers who publish accessibility statements, but we do not control the rendering of those components directly.
- Sort dropdown navigation. The “Sort by” selector on the listings page reloads the page on change. A future update will route this through a submit button so keyboard users have explicit control over when navigation happens.
- Password-strength feedback. The registration form indicates the minimum password length, but does not yet announce strength updates in real time to assistive technology. Workaround: the field accepts any password 8+ characters; you do not lose information by submitting.
If you find a barrier not listed here, please tell us — see Section 7.
5. Third-Party Content
The following parts of our site are provided by third parties. We have selected vendors who maintain their own accessibility statements, but ultimate accessibility of these components is their responsibility:
- Stripe Checkout — for processing your payment. See Stripe.
- Google Maps — embedded location maps and directions.
- Google reCAPTCHA — bot protection on certain forms.
- Live chat widget (deep-chat) — customer chat support.
If a third-party component blocks you from completing your goal on our site (placing an order, contacting us, finding our address), please contact us by phone or email and we will help you complete the task directly.
6. Compatibility
jctireshop.net is designed to work with:
- Recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge
- Screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), and TalkBack (Android)
- Browser zoom up to 200%
- Operating-system high-contrast and dark-mode settings
The site may not display correctly on Internet Explorer or browser versions more than three years old. If that is your only option, please call us directly to place an order.
7. Feedback & Reporting a Barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on jctireshop.net — a page you cannot read with your screen reader, a button you cannot reach with your keyboard, text that is too low contrast, a form that does not announce errors, or anything else — we want to know. Please contact us:
- Email: info@jctireshop.net (please put “Accessibility” in the subject)
- Phone: (504) 381-4908
- In person: 2544 Lapalco Blvd, Harvey, LA 70058 — Mon–Fri 8AM–6PM, Sat 8AM–5PM
When you contact us, please include:
- The URL of the page where you ran into the barrier
- The browser and assistive technology you are using (e.g., “Chrome with NVDA”)
- A description of what you were trying to do
Our commitment to you: we will acknowledge your report within 2 business days, and we aim to resolve accessibility issues within 14 days. If a fix will take longer, we will explain why and offer an alternative way to complete your purchase (phone, email, in-person).
